Detection of heart diseases
We translate modern diagnostics from the clinic into easy-to-use software. Our app is able to diagnose heart murmurs with just an audio recording of your heart. We are running clinical studies with hospitals in Germany to improve our AI.
How it works
Easy, within seconds, from anywhere, without registration.
Theodor uses the built-in microphone to capture body sounds, like your heartbeat, turning your smartphone into a stethoscope using modern technology.
Take off your case. Sit or lay down.
1
Place the Phone on your skin on the left side of your chest. Record.
2
Results shown. in the event of abnormal findings, we recommend further diagnostics.

Features
We’re exploring the use of modern technology to assist in diagnosing cardiac and lung conditions & diseases, preventing strokes and much more.
Currently, we can detect your heart rate, rhythm and respiratory rate as well as problems with your heart valves. We are constantly improving Theodor and will add analysis for lung diseases soon.
Heart Rate
Theodor extracts the heart rate (beats /min) from provided audio recordings. A normal resting heart rate for adults ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minute.
Valves
Heart valves control the direction and flow of blood through the heart. Using a stethoscope to listen to the heart—a method known as auscultation—is the primary way to check for heart valve diseases. Early detection of valve issues is crucial because it can lead to symptoms like reduced physical performance, dizziness, shortness of breath, palpitations, and new rhythm disorders. Catching these signs early through regular heart check-ups can help manage the condition before more severe complications arise.
Rhythm
By listening to the heart with a stethoscope, irregular rhythms like atrial fibrillation (AFib) can be detected. AFib, which leads to a fast and irregular heartbeat, raises the risk of stroke and heart failure. Regular heart check-ups are vital for early detection and effective management of this condition, helping to prevent severe health problems.
Respiratory Rate
Theodor extracts the respiratory rate (breaths /min) from provided audio recordings. A normal respiratory rate for adults ranges from 12 to 20 breaths per minute.
Pneumonia
Pneumonia, an infection of the lungs, can often be detected by listening to the lungs. Thereby, abnormal sounds like crackling or wheezing are audible, which can indicate fluid in the lungs—a common symptom of pneumonia. Early detection of pneumonia is critical because it allows for prompt treatment, reducing the risk of complications such as respiratory failure or the spread of infection. Regular check-ups can help catch pneumonia early, especially in those at high risk, like the elderly or those with weakened immune systems.
Asthma and COPD
Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) can be detected through auscultation, where a stethoscope is used to listen for unusual lung sounds. In asthma, you might hear wheezing or a whistling sound, while in COPD, sounds like prolonged exhalation or crackles might be evident. Detecting these conditions early is crucial as it allows for effective management and treatment. Early intervention can help control symptoms, improve quality of life, and prevent the progression of the disease, which can lead to severe respiratory distress and other serious health issues. Regular check-ups facilitate early detection and ongoing management of these chronic respiratory diseases.
Aim of Theodor Health
We want to make medical diagnostics as simple as possible and accessible at any time and from anywhere. The value and importance of body sounds is underestimated. We are trying to use (heart) sounds for medical diagnostics. It’s easy to use and super fast. Within a few seconds you get important information about a patient’s state of health.
We are doctors from Germany trying to improve our healthcare.
To enable the project, we are launching our app with analysis for heart valve diseases for free. The more data we collect by people using Theodor, the more algorithms we can develop to screen for further health conditions. To provide you with an analysis of your heart, we will collect some basic demographic and medical history data via a questionnaire, as well as some audio files recorded via the smartphone’s microphone.
The app does not track any other activities and only collects this data if you actively interact with it. The data is stored on servers in Germany. The app does provide you with an analysis on heart valve diseases but can’t make medical suggestions or provide further medical care. If you get a suspicious result please contact a doctor.
